TEI’s 80th Annual Conference, held at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco, California, in late October, brought together more than 380 in-house tax professionals, over 160 speakers, and more than forty exhibiting sponsors for an immersive experience designed to address the most pressing issues in today’s rapidly evolving tax landscape.
As in previous years, the Annual Conference featured a comprehensive program with expert-led plenary and concurrent sessions covering a broad range of topics, including US federal and international tax, state and local tax, Canadian tax, tax department leadership, financial reporting, and technology.
Attendees gained valuable insights into key critical topics such as navigating the IRS in the wake of DOGE, tax planning in uncertain M&A environments, and updates on executive compensation and alternative investments. Hands-on workshops allowed participants to engage directly with emerging technologies, including sessions on Power Query for data transformation and interactive exercises using AI prompts and personas to enhance corporate tax strategies. The conference also highlighted key international and state tax developments, offering attendees practical takeaways to apply in their organizations, alongside thought-provoking discussions on tax leadership, education, and succession trends.
The conference also offered ample networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect with peers, sponsors, and speakers during breaks, social events, and sponsor-hosted sessions. These interactions fostered a strong sense of community and collaboration among in-house tax professionals. One of the event’s key highlights was the TEI Grand Reception, with a lively ’80s for 80th Annual Conference celebration, where participants enjoyed throwback tunes, classic arcade games, and retro fun. The festive atmosphere provided the perfect setting for both relaxation and networking. Additionally, many sponsors hosted their own activities, including a casino night, offering even more opportunities for attendees to engage in focused discussions, share insights, and build professional relationships.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at TEI’s Midyear Conference in March in Washington, D.C.!
