As we navigate a period of significant transformation in the global tax landscape, I am proud to share that this year’s offerings have been thoughtfully curated to equip our members with the tools and insights needed to confidently manage change and uncertainty.

First, I’m excited to announce the successful launch of the TEI Tax Leadership Academy, a premier program designed for emerging tax leaders eager to elevate their capabilities within their organizations. Our comprehensive curriculum covers strategic thinking, negotiation, change management, and adaptability in communications, tailored specifically for in-house tax professionals. The academy blends in-person and virtual sessions, including exclusive workshops at TEI’s Midyear Conference as well as at the Annual Conference, which will conclude with a Capstone Business Case on October 25 in San Francisco—applying leadership skills to a real-world tax challenge. Participants also benefit from a structured mentorship program, engaging with seasoned tax executives and former TEI international presidents. Keep an eye out for updates on the TEI Tax Leadership Academy at www.tei.org.

As for our commitment to fostering the next generation of tax professionals, the 3rd Annual International Tax Student Case Competition will be held in Montréal, Canada, August 14–16, and exemplifies our efforts in supporting students to develop a passion for taxation. The competition brings together students, mentors, practitioners, and judges from around the world for three days of learning, connection, and collaboration. Teams comprise four students per university, who are paired with TEI mentors and receive access to a library of international tax training resources before the competition. The competition kicks off with a lively foosball tournament on Thursday evening, followed by a seminar and hands-on workshop on Friday addressing how AI and technology are impacting the tax profession. A cocktail welcome reception is scheduled for Friday evening, and on Saturday, students will be presented with a hypothetical fact pattern raising an international tax issue and have three hours to prepare their presentation to a panel of distinguished judges simulating a corporate board of directors. The winners will be announced at the prestigious gala reception, where students will be able to mingle with other student competitors, TEI mentors, practitioners from sponsoring firms, and our judging panel. I am always excited to connect with our next generation of tax talent, and I look forward to their entrance into the professional world.

We aren’t focusing on just students, however. As work policies continue to evolve, TEI remains committed to offering flexible learning and networking opportunities. Our recent CTO event focused on effective communication strategies for CTOs with C-suite and audit committees. Mentorship and access to leadership tools are vital for professional growth for seasoned in-house tax professionals. TEl’s Women’s Tax Network and Young Tax Network continue to provide programming, resources, and networking opportunities with support tailored to the unique experience of navigating an in-house tax career. We address critical topics such as overcoming impostor syndrome, managing stress to prevent burnout, and gaining confidence. We are committed to providing training that transcends borders and supports our global membership. This series of virtual sessions offered at 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET caters to multiple time zones and is available to all our members at every stage of their careers.

Tax professionals are seeking education and support to stay ahead. TEI is dedicated to providing the necessary resources and forums through our various communities on TEI Engage to meet these demands, ensuring our members are well-equipped to adapt and excel. In addition to being available on TEI.org, we are also showcasing our advocacy efforts on LinkedIn. I am proud of the progress we’ve made and the initiatives we’ve launched to support our members, and I am grateful to TEI’s dedicated staff, leadership, and outstanding volunteers across all our regions for making a difference to empower in-house tax professionals worldwide.

Together, we will continue to adapt, grow, and lead in the ever-changing tax environment.

Sincerely,

Josephine Scalia
TEI International President
