TEI’s inaugural State and Local Tax (SALT) Essentials Course concluded its spring run on a high note, delivering nine weeks of virtual instruction from March 24 through May 21.
The comprehensive introductory-level program drew more than 175 attendees and featured forty instructors representing sixteen firms. Across twenty-four live ninety-minute sessions, participants explored foundational SALT topics—including nexus standards, apportionment, sales tax exemptions, credits and incentives, and audits—gaining practical expert-led insight into the core issues shaping today’s state and local tax environment.
The program’s flexible structure allowed participants to enroll in the full SALT course or focus specifically on either of two tracks, Income Tax or Sales & Use Tax, tailoring the experience to their practice area and professional goals.
Engagement remained strong throughout the course, with interactive polling, live Q&A, and case studies woven into sessions. The format encouraged meaningful discussion and practical application, creating a highly collaborative virtual learning experience.
“We were extremely pleased with the success of TEI’s inaugural SALT Essentials Course and the strong response from participants throughout the program,” says Todd Lard, TEI tax counsel and liaison to TEI’s SALT Committee. “As the first program of its kind for TEI, the course provided an important opportunity to deliver practical, real-world SALT guidance in a flexible virtual format, and the level of engagement demonstrated just how valuable that experience was for in-house tax professionals.”
TEI extends its thanks to the instructors and participants who contributed to the success of the 2026 program. Information on future offerings will be shared as it becomes available.
